ROCKINGHAM — William Daniel Holmes, 62, known to family and friends as “Willie,” passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
A native of Richmond County, he was born June 25, 1958, a son of the late William Cash Holmes and Beatrice Guinn Holmes Saunders.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Barbara Blue Holmes, who died on Oct. 13, 2011; two brothers, George Reep and Daniel Reep; and two sisters, Helen Reep and Doris Beach.
He served his country in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Mr. Holmes worked for Burlington Industries for 32 years as a loom fixer. His hobbies included fishing, football and NASCAR.
He is survived by his current wife, Cheryl Elaine Powell Holmes, of the home; three children, Chris Holmes of Rockingham, Jessica Miller of Mebane and Holly Holmes of Alabama; four brothers, Carroll Reep, David Reep, Richard Reep and Calvin Williams; one sister, Flora Wright; plus nine grandchildren (and one on the way) and three great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state from 3 until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham, at which time the public may view and pay their respects. The family will not be present during this time.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Community Holiness Church, 3722 Hillcrest Road, Wagram, with Pastor Winford Blue officiating. The public is invited to attend providing facial coverings and social distancing is observed. Interment will follow in the nearby Blue Family Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his late wife, Barbara.
