William Jimmy Melton, 85, of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Kinston, son of the late Curtis Leslie Melton and Annie Louise Jones Melton.
Jimmy served proudly in the United States Air Force and continued as a proud veteran all of his life. He worked with CSX railroad for more than 35 years and enjoyed his work. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Rockingham and was a fine Christian man that loved the Lord and was a great witness. He also enjoyed building things and working with his hands. Jimmy was blessed with a wonderful family and loved his wife, his two children, Tammy and Robert, and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy C. Melton; brother, Curtis Melton; and sister, Alice Richey.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Tammy Mischelle Melton of York, South Carolina, and Robert Leslie Melton (Jenny) of Hamlet; grandchildren, Kristina Bennett, Misti Mischelle Melton Britt (Jared), Robert Leslie Melton Jr., Sierra Sadler and Andrea Verde; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kelsie, Gavin, Ethan, Grayson, Mason, Delilah, Jase, Meric, Malakai and Quinn.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, Rockingham.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., immediately following the visitation, with the Rev. Joey Byrd officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
