OAK ISLAND — Woodrow “Buddy” Herring, 73, of Oak Island, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Hospice Haven.
He was born in Dillon, South Carolina, Sept. 21, 1947, son of Cora Leggett.
He was a former conductor with CSX Railroad, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, an avid fisherman, and a veteran’s advocate.
He is survived by his sons, Chris Herring of Hamlet, Bryan Herring of Hamlet and Jason Herring (Kadee) of Chesterfield, South Carolina; sisters, Susan Herring Pridgen of Georgia, and Jeannie Herring McGrady of Wadesboro; Uncle, J.W. Herring of Maxton; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will have a memorial service Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Rockingham VFW from 2-4 p.m.
