ROCKINGHAM — Mark Harris says he was unaware of any wrongdoing and is cooperating with an investigation that’s holding up his certification as the next representative for North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District.

Harris broke his week-long silence in a video statement Friday afternoon.

ROCKINGHAM — Democrat Dan McCready has withdrawn his concession in the 9th Congressional District race amid allegations of voting irregularities in Bladen County during last month’s election.

McCready took to Twitter Thursday afternoon to announce his decision.

ROCKINGHAM — The race for North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District has officially come to an end.

Democrat Dan McCready conceded to Republican Mark Harris late Wednesday afternoon, following a tight election that left McCready fewer than 2,000 votes behind.

ROCKINGHAM — Despite only carrying two of the eight counties in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, former pastor Mark Harris came out on top in Tuesday’s mid-term election.

It was after 1 a.m. before the N.C. State Board of Elections showed all 210 precincts reporting, with Harris defeating Democratic opponent Dan McCready by fewer than 2,000 votes.

ROCKINGHAM — Both of Richmond County’s state legislators are heading back to the General Assembly. 

State Sen. Tom McInnis and state Rep. Ken Goodman both won their respective campaigns in Tuesday night’s election.

ROCKINGHAM — More than 100 Richmond County voters have switched party their party affiliation within the past two months, as more continue to shed partisan labels.

Statistics from the Richmond County Board of Elections show 133 registered voters changed parties from Sept. 1 to Oct. 15.

Democrats, who make up the majority of voters, lost 93 to other affiliations, but picked up 11. Two Democrats became Libertarians, 22 are now Republicans and 69 are now unaffiliated.

ROCKINGHAM — Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee shook hundreds of hands Wednesday in the first of four stops campaigning for House hopeful Mark Harris.

A large crowd of conservatives, including local pastors and politicians, awaited the Republican heavyweight’s arrival in the parking lot of the Richmond County Cooperative Extension office, which is serving as an early voting site.

Huckabee took the time to pose for photos — including a selfie with Hamlet City Manager Jonathan Blanton — sign autographs and briefly speak with those in attendance.
