In 2021 a reporter contacted me for an interview. The reporter had obtained a copy of an email I sent to my mailing list, announcing the launch of my wife’s book “Thirteen Ballots.” The reporter commented that my tone had changed in the two years since early 2019 when I told the N.C. State Board of Elections that if it would restore confidence in the elections process, I would agree to a new election in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District. 

RALEIGH — Leslie McCrae Dowless, the alleged mastermind of an election fraud scheme in the 9th Congressional District, was arrested Wednesday and jailed in Wake County.

RALEIGH — Assistant U.S. Attorney John Harris testified Wednesday he warned his father, Republican U.S. Rep.-elect Rev. Mark Harris, it was unwise to hire Bladen County political operative McCrae Dowless.

RALEIGH — Andy Yates, the principal campaign strategist for Republican U.S. Rep.-elect Rev. Mark Harris, said he now questions whether McCrae Dowless legally rounded up absentee mail votes that helped to push Harris to an unofficial 905-vote win over Democrat Dan McCready in the 9th U.S. Congressional District.

After months of news reports, we finally got a good look at the people in Bladen County involved in the election fraud in the 9th Congressional District. Most seemed unwitting participants in the scheme but they also indicated an effort to cover up their activities led by McCrae Dowless. So far, it’s been a fascinating look at a ploy to rig an election and testimony gave clear evidence that what they did was illegal. I had a bunch of thoughts as I watched the proceedings via twitter.

RALEIGH — Republicans and Democrats held dueling news conferences Monday afternoon, trying to sway public opinion on the question of whether GOP Rep.-elect Mark Harris should be seated in the state’s 9th U.S. Congressional District.
