Wadesboro man charged in Rockingham break-in

ROCKINGHAM — An Anson County man is facing charges related to a break-in in Richmond County.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Darryl Eugene Walker, of Wadesboro is accused of breaking into a storage building on Fayetteville Road and stealing powered yard tools.

The offense date was not listed in a press release issued Monday.

Walker was arrested Aug. 14 and charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering, as well as a single count of misdemeanor larceny.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond and was still in custody on Aug. 21. Walker is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 31.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Walker has been out of prison for almost 16 months after spending a decade behind bars following a 2012 conviction in Cleveland County on charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and being a habitual felon.

Walker was first convicted in 1993 for possession of drug paraphernalia and the following year for misdemeanor breaking and entering.

He was subsequently convicted:

  • 1998 – misdemeanor breaking and entering (listed as a felony), misdemeanor larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia – probation
  • 2004 – second-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, resisting a public officer – served one year, four days
  • 2006 – possession of burglary tools, felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods – served two consecutive sentences totalling nearly two years and nine months

All convictions from 1993-2006 were in Mecklenburg County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
