OPINION: Bending the arc

George Floyd died at the hands of police officers one ago yesterday. His death set off a wave national protests in a nation that had been locked down for two and half months. The reaction to Floyd’s death and the summer of protests and riots that followed laid bare the divisions in this country. It also began movement toward a racial reckoning that’s long overdue.

OP-ED: It's time to end 'the talk'

Recently, I had “the talk” with my four children, two sons and two daughters. For Black families, “the talk” is not about the birds and the bees. The talk is about what to do when you encounter the police. It is a talk about how to stay alive. My mother and my father had a similar talk with me when I was a child. Their parents had the same talk with them when they were children.
