ROCKINGHAM — In front of a crowd of friends and fans — and in some cases, both — the Ponder Project performed its scheduled show at Hudson Brothers Deli Friday evening, a week after the band’s equipment trailer was stolen.
Midway through a two-hour set, which included The Cult’s “Fire Woman,” Golden Earring’s “Radar Love,” and Drowning Pool’s “Bodies,” the band publicly thanked Steve Arey for helping them out with sound equipment.
While guitarist John Baker and Jason Singleton had their instruments with them, their amps and pedals were in the trailer that was stolen early the previous Saturday morning.
Drummer Shot Allen borrowed the drum set from Anakin White, who has been splitting sets behind the skins for the past several months.
Vocalist Kevin Butler and other band members also thanked the Richmond County music community for offering to loan them equipment needed for the show.
Earlier in the day, the Hamlet Police Department obtained warrants for Darrin Coke Bryant of Greenville, South Carolina, charging him with two counts of felony larceny for allegedly stealing the trailer and its contents, which also included vocalist Billie Adiemy’s keyboard, the microphones and stage lighting.
Bryant is also accused of stealing a 2015 Cadillac CTS from Griffin Automotive Group on Oct. 28, and is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
Police say the truck he was driving when he allegedly stole the trailer was itself stolen from a dealership in South Carolina.
Around noon last Wednesday, the department posted a photo of Bryant and the stolen truck he is accused of driving.
Police say more charges may be forthcoming in the case.
The equipment had not yet been recovered as of Tuesday afternoon.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
