Cardiologist joins FirstHealth Cardiology in Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM — FirstHealth Cardiology in Rockingham is pleased to welcome Benjamin Marengo, D.O., to its team of heart care specialists caring for patients in Richmond County and surrounding communities. Dr. Marengo joins the practice of Olujide Lawal, M.D., David Shin, M.D. and Tammy Brigman, FNP.

Dr. Marengo specializes in all areas of non-invasive cardiology and will provide care to patients in the hospital and in the outpatient clinic.

He said he’s thrilled to join the FirstHealth Cardiology team.

“Throughout my initial interactions with the team, it was easy to see that providers felt supported by colleagues, staff and administration,” he said. “The collaborative, dynamic and family-like atmosphere leads to better communication and improves patient outcomes. I am excited to join this team.”

Dr. Marengo said he’s always enjoyed science, teaching and helping people, so a career in medicine was a natural choice to blend all of those passions.

“I chose cardiology because it is a challenging, yet rewarding, field that affects millions of individuals,” he said. “As a cardiologist, I am committed to educating and partnering with my patients to make the best treatment plan for their unique situation.”

Dr. Marengo earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Michigan State University. He went on to earn a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his post-graduate training with an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Dr. Marengo and his wife recently moved to the area from Michigan.

“Our goal in moving was to find a great place to raise a family in an area with a sense of pride in community,” he said. “While we have only been in North Carolina for a month, it has been great, and we feel confident it will exceed all of our expectations.”

Their love for the outdoors and golfing makes moving to the area particularly exciting as they anticipate enjoying the milder winters the area has to offer.
