HAMLET — After more than a half-century as Tri-City, Inc., the Richmond County real estate development company has changed its name to honor its founder and family patriarch, the late Claude Felton Smith Jr.
Rockingham Lawyer Futrell Appointed to Superior Court
ROCKINGHAM — One Richmond County lawyer will soon be donning a black robe and wielding a gavel.
Longtime attorney Stephan B. Futrell was recently appointed to the bench last week by Gov. Roy Cooper to fill the spot soon to be vacated by Superior Court Judge Richard Brown.

I grew up in Northampton County, NC, a county where the largest town is no bigger than Ellerbe, so when I moved to Richmond County I thought I had landed in "the big city". I am fully aware, nonetheless, that Rockingham nor any town in Richmond County is "the big city", and I am so thankful for it.
