ROCKINGHAM – Members of the local motorcycle club, Ol Skool Tribe, let up their kickstands this week outside of Highway 55 to ride in support of the Andy’s Foundation.

After first hosting a golf tournament to support local charities, according to their website, The Andy’s Foundation, “became a foundation to better serve a larger number of organizations within the operational area of our backyards.”

Chris Cox, Vice President of the Ol Skool Tribe motorcycle club, walked with a bull horn making announcements regarding registration, raffles and start time for the event. While he has participated in golf tournaments in support of the Andy’s Foundation, hosting the motorcycle ride is a first.

“This is our very first ride for them,” Cox said. “And 100 percent of our proceeds will go to the foundation to be distributed amongst various charitable organizations that support a little bit of everything, from the homeless, to shelters for battered women.”

Eddie Dean, President of the Ol Skool Tribe, provided a little insight to the ongoing efforts of the motorcycle club to support the community.

“We participate in two rides a year,” Dean said. “We have always done an autism ride in support of the Sandhills Children’s Center. I believe we raised $3,800 this year back in April. In the past, we would ride to help the Dungeon’s Boxing Club, but since it has faded out, this ride [for the Andy’s Foundation] will be taking its place.”

The cost was $15 for a single rider, and $20 for a couple. They sold 50/50 tickets and raffled off donated door prizes. They also held an auction for various items with all proceeds going to the Foundation.

With nearly 40 sponsors, featured on the official shirt of the day, donating at least $100 each for the operations of event, Cox and Dean are enthusiastic and encouraged about their efforts and outcome of the ride.

“We will probably raise right around $4,000 today,” they concluded.

The ride started in the overflow parking lot outside of Highway 55 with a police escort. It continued up to the Carthage/Mount Gilead area, bringing the hour long ride to a close at the V.F.W Post 4203 of Old River Road in Rockingham, with a catered meal from Highway 55 for all riders.

The Andy’s Charitable Foundation has made annual donations for the last nine years, totaling over a million dollars, for the Miracle League, Make-a-Wish Foundation, and other worthy causes.
