ABERDEEN — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ bowling team struggled to close frames Thursday.

Facing Pinecrest and Hoke County high schools at the Sandhills Bowling Center, the Lady Raiders dropped both Sandhills Athletic Conference matches.

Seeing its losing streak extend to three matches, Richmond lost to Pinecrest for the third time this season. It was also the second loss to Hoke County.

The Lady Raiders opened the day with a 4-1 loss to the Lady Patriots, followed by a close 3-2 defeat against the Lady Bucks.

“It was a tough day because we weren’t able to close out as many frames as we normally do,” head coach Ashleigh Larsen said. “We were well below our season average as a team.

“If we get a couple of rolls to go our way against Hoke County, we could have picked up a third game and the final pin count,” she added.

The Lady Raiders closed 34.5% of their overall frames and senior Neely Turner led the team with a .438 closing percentage (7-for-16).

Second game hurts Lady Raiders against Pinecrest

Richmond managed to take just one game against the Lady Patriots, the third game 139-114. The Lady Raiders fell 110-127, 115-177 and 119-121 in the others. The final pin count was 483-539.

Closing 40% of their frames (18-of-45), the Lady Raiders were led by junior anchor Ava Thompson. She shut 7-of-13 frames (53.8%) with three strikes and two spares.

Senior Katie Way also had a trio of strikes. With her solo spare, she went 4-for-8 in her frames (50%).

Loss decided in final game against Hoke County

A back-and-forth match between Richmond and Hoke County was decided in the final of the four games. Scores were 129-108, 112-157, 107-87 and 115-128 for a pin total of 463-480.

Turner was the team’s top bowler against the Lady Bucks, going 4-for-8 with two strikes and two spares.

Also adding two strikes apiece were Smith and Thompson. The latter rolled a spare in one of her 10 frames.

Way tacked on a pair of spares and Tschudi recorded her first strike of the season.

Through 10 matches, the Lady Raiders sit in fifth place in the SAC standings with 17 points.
