SANFORD — With the Ws continuing to pour in, the Lady Raider basketball team tied its longest winning streak in Teddy Moselsey’s nearly six seasons as head coach Friday.

Notching their 12th consecutive victory, the Lady Raiders remained undefeated in Sandhills Athletic Conference play and maintained their conference lead with one regular-season game to go.

Richmond eased past Lee County High School 60-30, tying the previous winning streak set between Jan. 4 through Feb. 16, 2022.

Overcoming what Moseley noted as a flat start to the game, the Lady Raiders were led by their star junior point guard Jamyia Lindsey.

She finished with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-24 shooting, including 4-for-6 from the line. Lindsey also had six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Senior Ryelan Lyerly and freshman Madisen Jackson each netted eight points. Lyerly drained a pair of three-pointers to go with five boards and three steals, while Jackson matched Lindsey for a team-high six rebounds.

Sophomore Jasiah Gilchrist scored all seven of her points in the second half and she swiped a team-high six steals.

Four other Lady Raiders scored in the victory — junior Rena Drake (five points), senior C’Niya Hinson (four points), sophomore J’Nasia Neal (three points) and senior MaKailah Jackson (two points).

It took some time for the Lady Raiders to get into a scoring groove in the first quarter. Through the opening five minutes, they held a 4-3 lead. Scoring two free throws was Lindsey and Madisen Jackson put a rebound back up for a bucket.

But a three-pointer from Neal along the right side at the 2:10 mark ignited a 10-1 run to close the quarter. Hinson scored seconds later on a steal following the inbound pass.

Lindsey collected the final five points for Richmond to make it a 14-4 lead after one. She had two drives, completing the old-fashioned three-point play on the second.

That late energy carried over for much of the second quarter as the Lady Raiders used the shots of Lindsey and Lyerly to open it up to a 27-4 advantage.

Lindsey netted five points on a layup and another and-one opportunity. Lyerly joined the scoring with a spinning shot in the paint followed by a three-pointer.

A three-ball from Lindsey, her final of 15 points in the first half, splashed down from the top of the arc to make it a 23-point lead.

Lee County went on a 3-0 run, scoring its first point of the second quarter with 2:36 to go before the half.

The Jackson sisters both hit close-range second-chance buckets in the final 90 seconds to give Richmond a 31-7 lead going into the locker room. Richmond’s defense held the Lady Yellow Jackets to single digits in each of the first two frames.

Three starters and one bench player accounted for Richmond’s 18 points in the third quarter. Lindsey scored six more points on a pair of mid-range jumpers and an offensive rebound putback.

Gilchrist got her name on the scoresheet in the third, starting with a free throw. She followed that with a couple of fastbreak layups, all coming in the closing two minutes of the quarter.

Madisen Jackson made a jumper and muscled through the paint for two buckets and her final four points. Drake, who recorded four rebounds, registered her first three points of the second half with a bucket and a successful and-one opportunity.

The second of Gilchrist’s layups came with 20 seconds to go in the third, which put Richmond ahead 49-19.

Lyerly opened the final stanza with her second triple from the right corner in the first minute. Lindsey also ended her scoring with another jumper.

The Lady Raiders’ final six points in the game came courtesy of Hinson, Drake and Gilchrist, who each scored a close-range field goal.

The team’s largest lead of the game was 35 points, 56-21, which came after Hinson’s basket near the midway point of the fourth.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (9-9, 5-5- SAC) were led by Gillian Garrison’s 17 points. Kelyce Mcswain chipped in eight points.

The Lady Raiders (19-4, 11-0 SAC) can clinch the outright SAC championship in their regular-season finale next Friday against second-place Scotland High School (18-2, 9-1 SAC).

It will also be senior night, which will recognize the team’s six seniors. The game will start at 6 p.m.
