I was a stout libertarian for about five years. I also did not vote in 2016. When people say that nothing will change if we keep voting for the two major parties or that they may not vote this year, I understand you and I hear you. However, as stereotypical as it might sound, this election is different.

OPINION: The success of President Trump

The election is upon us and early voting is already underway in many states. As is always the case with an incumbent president, voters are determining whether the current president is worthy of a second term. In short, this election is a referendum on President Trump. Let’s discuss the success of Donald Trump’s first term in office.

OPINION: The excuses for Donald Trump

Last week I wrote about the way in which Donald Trump defends himself. He casts blame on to others in order to move the spotlight away from him. He knows that it is easier to spread lies than it is to fact check lies. It takes mere seconds to falsify something than it does to research that thing.

For those of us who don’t like Trump, we wonder how this president can get away with so much. This is the worst president we have ever had. Some of this stems from the fact that President Trump is given every excuse in the book, and then some, by many and even by himself. But a large portion of it is that Trump dominates the news cycle with deflection by casting blame and corruption onto others to cover himself. Seemingly nothing ever sticks to him. Let’s discuss a few examples.

OPINION: Words matter

Our words matter to our friends, family, peers, and co-workers. Our words form the basis for our reputation and respect. They also form the basis of our trustworthiness.

OPINION: America needs 2 fast things

America is in need of two things very fast and very different. One large, and one small — sort of. One that goes a couple hundred miles an hour, and one that goes almost the speed of light. One that travels in complicated paths, and one that goes in a giant circle. One that is familiar, and one that is not so much. One that is reliable and efficient, and one that crashes constantly.

Should Confederate monuments stay, or should they go? That debate has been raging for the last three years, and especially since June with the George Floyd and Black Lives Matter protests.

The 2020 Presidential election is coming up and all estimates indicate that we may have the highest voter turnout in decades, if not a century. Because of the coronavirus, the number of mail-in ballots will almost certainly be record breaking. This election is already one of the most contentious.

COLUMN: A letter to Americans

This is a letter to all Americans who are disillusioned with our politics. This is a letter to those people who have lost faith in our democratic process. This is a letter to the people who know that Trump is bad for our country, but can’t yet make the leap to vote for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. This is a letter to those people who may be at risk of sitting out this election. This election is different. Let me explain why.
