As the battles for Congress heat up, supporters of candidate Dr. Mark Harris (R-9th District) submitted the following letter:

Friends,

It seems like only yesterday we were flipping the calendar from 2016 to 2017. Coming off the election of Donald J Trump that shocked the nation and the liberal media, we were filled with optimism in anticipation of what could be in store.

We had finally elected a Republican House, Republican Senate, and yes, now a Republican in the White House.

To his credit, President Trump has been faithfully working to keep the promises he made to the American people while he was on the campaign trail. Unfortunately, on many issues, Congress has left our President out on an island.

He has been forced to govern through executive order while Congress stalls on corresponding bills. The President has been pleading with Congress for funding for the wall, full repeal and replacement of Obamacare, protection of religious freedom, defunding Planned Parenthood, a constitutional amendment establishing term limits for members of Congress, and many other important changes necessary. Congress has failed to act, letting us all down once again.

Washington, D.C., is broken. The swamp is even deeper than we imagined. We cannot expect real change until we change the people we send to represent us.  That’s why we all believe we need a new congressman in the 9th district for the new year.

We need a new congressman who will stand up for our conservative values. Our current congressman has a failing grade of 45% from the Conservative Review. Our congressman’s grade is the worst of any Republican member from North or South Carolina.

The votes responsible for this failing grade range from consistent support for the Omnibus budget bills, funding Planned Parenthood and raising our debt ceiling almost $100 billion above the limits imposed by the Budget Control Act, to a “no” vote on reaffirming the 4thAmendment, which guarantees our individual right to protection from unlawful search and seizure.

His “no” vote stood in opposition to Representatives including Mark Meadows, Trey Gowdy, Marsha Blackburn, and Mick Mulvaney who along with 201 others who voted in favor of protecting our individual rights.

We need a new congressman who will be leader not just a vote. In today’s world of political gridlock, it’s not enough to have a congressman who goes to Washington, cast his votes, accomplishes nothing, returns home and blames it on “the process.”

We need a leader who will stand up to the status quo from both parties and fight to get things done.

Mark Harris is that kind of leader. He is the new congressman we need and deserve. A pastor not a politician, Mark is one of us.

“He’s very committed to things he believes in and able to engender trust and inspire support for others to follow him,” says Richard Land, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary in Matthews. “He’s a charismatic and strong leader.”

As two-term President of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention, and a champion of many conservative causes including the Marriage Amendment, we can be assured that Mark will stand up for us. He will never sell out to the lobbyists, the special interest groups, and the Washington establishment. Mark won’t just be satisfied with casting his vote and coming home.  He will be a real leader who will make us proud. We know we can count on Mark Harris.

As you make your New Year’s resolutions, we hope you will join us in resolving to elect a new congressman; a congressman we can trust, and a congressman who will be a voice for us. We hope you will stand with us as we commit to doing everything we can to elect Mark Harris as our new Congressman.

Sincerely,
