RALEIGH – North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement after Governor Cooper outlined his budget proposal offering common ground solutions for North Carolina:
“Governor Cooper has put forward a responsible budget that invests in our middle class, creates stronger, safer schools, expands Medicaid, and puts more money in people’s pockets. Instead of slashing taxes for the wealthy and out of state corporations, Governor Cooper is putting our middle class and poor families first. That’s not only smart policy – it’s the right thing to do.
“Republicans have a choice: support our schools or continue to give handouts to those at the very top at the expense of our working class. Teachers shouldn’t have to take to the streets to earn the respect they deserve. Republicans are facing a blue wave of fired up voters frustrated by years of Republican attempts to stack the deck against the middle class and to rig the system against their political rivals. Whatever their choice, it will have clear consequences at the ballot box.”
