ROCKINGHAM — The final countdown is on for the Lady Raider soccer team’s spring fundraiser.

Using Snap! Raise, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer program is seeking the community’s support while playing its regular season during the pandemic.

The month-long fundraiser is down to its last nine days, which will conclude on Wed., April 28.

To date, the Lady Raiders have raised $2,635 of their current team goal of $3,000. A total of 46 supporters have donated to head coach Chris Larsen and the team.

Money raised this spring will go toward funding the hopeful construction of a practice field adjacent to where the current soccer field is now.

Larsen said building an additional workout facility has been in the works for some time. The long-term plan, he said, will help boost the quality of Richmond’s programs, while also continuing to raise the sport’s interest level in Richmond County.

Funds will also be used to help purchase new uniforms, as well as offset travel costs and other team expenses due to limited gate sales.

The Richmond soccer programs typically raise money through a sponsor board and an annual summer camp, but because of the pandemic, the 2020 summer camp was canceled for the first time in 19 years.

Also due to the uncertainty of playing early on, Larsen decided not to take donations for the sponsor board.

In February, the boys’ soccer team also held a Snap! Raise fundraiser, and brought in $6,681 in donations before the crowdsourcing site took its predetermined 20 percent.
