SANFORD 一 An RBI apiece by two players were the difference makers in the junior varsity Richmond Renegades’ summer season finale on Thursday.

Closing their Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League season with a win, the JV Renegades defeated Lee County 2-0.

Richmond bounced back from a seven-run loss on Tuesday and finished its campaign with a 9-4 overall record.

Rising freshman Brooks Calhoun plated the JV Renegades’ first run in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout to short. He scored rising sophomore Vance Goodwin, who led off the inning with a double to the gap in center.

Goodwin was moved to third on a single by rising eighth grader Caden Nolan, who had one of Richmond’s six hits in the win.

A two-out RBI single by rising eighth grader Evan Hodges added an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Calhoun scored on the single to center after drawing a walk and advancing to third on a passed ball.

Rising freshmen Landon Taylor and Jason Walker combined to shut out Lee County on the mound. Taylor allowed six hits and no runs through five innings of work, and the lefty struck out four batters.

Walker closed the door in the final two innings, not allowing a hit or any runs. He also recorded one strikeout.

Goodwin’s double was Richmond’s lone extra-base hit. Nolan, Hodges, Jason Gainey, Tyler Graham and Garret Mabe all had singles.

During the summer slate, the JV Renegades earned two wins against Scotland, swept two three-game series against Western Harnett and Southern Lee and split the series with Lee County.

Richmond’s four losses were a pair of games against Pinecrest and one against Lee County and Scotland.
