INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — The Richmond Raider soccer team took a break from conference play on Wednesday with a road trip to Porter Ridge High School.

Battling the Pirates close, the Raiders lost the non-conference matchup 2-0.

The game was moved up to a 5 p.m. start due to the chance of inclement weather, which resulted in the cancellation of the junior varsity match.

Richmond’s defense yielded one goal in each half. Scoring for Porter Ridge were Kaiden Perdue and Nathan Ladimir, the latter of whom was credited on an own-goal by the Raiders.

Junior goalkeeper Ethan McDonald got his first start of the season in the net, stopping 10 of 12 shots in the process.

“We played much better tonight, but we are still struggling to put the ball in the back of the net,” head coach Chris Larsen said. “We had a few chances to score, with a couple of shots off the post.

“We are slowly getting better,” he added.

On offense, the Raiders recorded seven shots on net against goalkeeper Henry Cerom. Senior Luke Williams, who returned to the team after missing a game, along with fellow senior Alex Medina, had two shots in the match.

Adding the others for Richmond were senior Cody Eason, junior Jullian Cline and sophomore Jesus Castro.

The Raiders (3-8, 1-4) will resume Sandhills Athletic Conference play on Monday at rival Scotland High School (2-8, 0-4).

Action will get underway at 7 p.m. in Laurinburg, which will be preceded by the junior varsity match at 5 p.m.
