PINEHURST — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ golf season ended on Monday with a surprise for its four seniors.

Playing an 18-hole round at Pinehurst No. 6, the families of seniors Jamie Sears, Morgan Stutts, Abigail Tatum and Makayla Webb threw a surprise senior night for them following the end of play.

Sears and Tatum both wrapped up their two-year careers with the team, while Stutts and Webb completed their first year.

As a team, the Lady Raiders shot their best 18-hole round of the season, posting a score of 376 to take fifth place.

That mark used the top three individual scores from Sears, Tatum and freshman Ella Munn, and was seven strokes better than their previous score.

“Our final match of the season hardly could have gone much better,” head coach Keith Parsons said. “Watching our group improve from beginning to end was amazing.

“Everyone was better (Monday), even if the scores might not show that. The quality of shot making from everyone was so impressive. I wish we had more time together, for sure.”

Sears and Tatum both shot a 119 in their final round. On the front nine, Sears shot a 57, followed by a 62 on the back nine. Tatum’s line was a 60 on the opening nine, and a 59 on the back half.

Sears and Tatum took off seven and six shots, respectively, from the first time they played No. 6 in the fourth match of the season.

Munn was third on the scorecard with a 138, shooting a 69 on both the front and back. Stutts (69, 72) and Webb (71, 70) each shot a 141.

On hole No. 7, Stutts recorded her first career par on the 143-yard par three.

Pinecrest High School won the match, shooting a 232, followed by Union Pines High School (282) in second place.
