ROCKINGHAM — Motorsport 4the Masses returns to Rockingham Speedway this weekend for a charity event.

The Motorfest at Thunder Alley Car and Jeep show will be raising money for Smiling While Sending Hope, a Youngsville-based organization that “benefits people from birth to age 26 with chronic illness and special needs,” according to its Facebook page.

Registration for the car show— open to all makes, models and styles — is $30 prior to the event and $40 on Saturday, and more than 70 awards will be given.

Laps around the infamous track will be available for participants and spectators. The cost is $40 in advance and $50 the day of. Those wanting to take hotlaps are encouraged to bring their own helmet, if they have one.

Powercurve Motorsports, out of Mooresville, will be at the track with their mobile dyno; vintage stock cars will  be on display, available for photo ops, and will make a few exhibition laps; and the Oscar Mayer Wienermoblie is on the menu.

There is also a burnout competition — limited to 16 cars — with a payout to the top four and a $175 top prize.

General Admission is $5 for spectators 16 and up. Those aged 15 or younger, in addition to active military and veterans get free admission.

Those who bring a new, unwrapped toy for Smiling While Sending Hope’s 8th annual toy drive will receive five free tickets for a 50/50 raffle.
