ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday.

Hosting Pinecrest High School and playing for the second time this season, the JV Lady Raiders lost 58-49 to the JV Lady Patriots.

Richmond also lost the first meeting in early December, its only other Sandhills Athletic Conference loss of the season.

“This was a tough loss,” head coach Tonia Breeden said. “We came out behind the eight ball with only six players to begin with and two of them are battling injuries.

“We got into foul trouble early in the third quarter and couldn't be as aggressive as we wanted to be in the second half,” she added. “Bad passing hurt us tonight also.  We played most of the fourth quarter with only four girls, but I'm extremely proud that they never gave up.”

All six players for Richmond would find the basket, starting with a team-high 21 points from freshman Quanna Bostic. She scored 16 points in the first half and added the other five in the third quarter.

Sophomore Jamia Crowder netted 10 points for Richmond, scoring six points before the break and four points in the second half. Sophomore Yasmeen McLaughlin chipped in eight points and Jasmine Williams had seven points.

Rounding out the scoring were Symone Terry with two points and Da’Veah Robinson with one point.

Richmond took a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, using six points from Crowder and five more from Bostic. Williams scored two field goals for four points.

The JV Lady Raiders kept it going in the second and managed to take a 32-30 lead into the break. Bostic accounted for 11 of the team’s 17 second-quarter points on four field goals and three free throws.

McLaughlin, Terry and Williams all contributed two points in the second quarter.

Pinecrest outscored Richmond 18-12 in the third quarter to take a 48-42 lead into the final period. Bostic and McLaughlin each had five points and Crowder netted the other two.

Down the stretch, the JV Lady Patriots built on their lead in the fourth. Pinecrest went on a 9-5 run with Richmond playing down a player.

Zanodiya McNair had a game-high 25 points for Pinecrest.

Richmond (5-3, 3-2 SAC) will return to the court on Friday, playing on the road at Hoke County High School. The game will start at 4:30 p.m.
