WAGRAM, N.C. – Last week, the Richmond Senior High boys golf team played host to the Sandhills Athletic Conference at Deercroft Golf Club.

At each conference match, the lowest four scores shot by golfers from each school are used as the team score for that day.  For this reason, Richmond typically only takes four or five golfers from the teams’ 10-member roster to compete in each match.  However, since the Raiders were on their home course, everyone was on-hand.

Freshman Jonathan Rich once again led the Raiders, this time finishing with an 89.  He is averaging 84 strokes per match this season and is one of the conference’s best freshmen players.

Carter Richardson had the next fewest strokes for Richmond with a 99. Jacob Puckett shot a 100, Jaxson Mabe finished with a 107, Will Thompson had a 110 and Kyle Goodwin ended the day with a 118.

Teammates Jordan Lambert, Evan McFayden, Evin Mabe and Cordell Nelson also participated in the event, but their scores were not submitted to the conference.

Richmond finished the match in fifth place with a score of 395.  Pinecrest, who has won all four matches this season, shot a 290.  Purnell Swett (316), Jack Britt (355), and Scotland (371) rounded out the top 4.

Hoke County finished one stroke behind the Raiders with a 398.  Seventy-First entered the minimum number of golfers (4) into a match for the first time the season and finished with a 519.  Lumberton only entered three golfers and received no team points.

The Raiders are currently 77 strokes behind rival Scotland, which sits in fourth place in the conference standings.  Unfortunately, with only two matches remaining, it is unlikely Richmond will be able to finish any higher than fifth place in the SAC.

Richmond will return to Gates Four on Monday for the fifth match of the season before ending the regular season at Pinehurst on April 23.
