SOUTHERN PINES – On Tuesday, Richmond Senior High School’s boys and girls cross country teams reunited with the teams from Purnell Swett and Hoke County high schools in Southern Pines.  Joining the Raiders, Rams, and Bucks on the 5,000-meter course were the Patriots of host Pinecrest High School.

Unfortunately for all of the visiting runners, Pinecrest simply dominated the day on its home turf.  In the boys meet, the first ten participants to cross the finish line represented the home team with sophomore Andrew Thompson leading the way with an impressive time of 17:35.  Hoke County’s Faruhk Ayala was the first non-Patriot to complete the race.  He clocked in at 19:41 to finish 11th overall.  Ayala was followed by Purnell Swett junior Alex Jacobs (20:07) and Richmond junior Gerardo Godinez (20:10) who were 12th and 13th, respectively, in the field of 58 runners.

Godinez, who led the Raiders for the second conference meet in a row, recorded his season best time on Tuesday.  The only other Raider to finish in the top 20 was Carson Jordan (20:30, 19th).

Also competing for the Raiders were sophomore Joshua Wallace (22:17, 33rd), Timothy Powell (22:39, 34th), senior Josh Saillor (24:30, 47th), sophomore Will Thompson (24:38, 50th), and junior Devon Tillman (27:30, 58th)

The Lady Patriots were just as successful.  When Pinecrest senior Brooklyn Doorey zipped past the stopwatch to finish in first place with a time of 20:45, she led a parade of Patriots to the finish line.  Twelve of the first 13 runners to complete the race were from the host school.

The one out-of-place runner was Richmond’s Airel Brown, who finished in fourth place with a time of 22:51.  The speedy junior has led the way for the Lady Raiders in every meet this season.  Fellow juniors Gracelyn Weatherford (24:54, 16th) and Allyson Leggett (25:58, 18th) finished ahead of many of the Hoke runners and all of the Purnell Swett runners.  Their times combined with Brown’s strong finish kept the Lady Raiders in contention for second place on the day.

Junior Abby Calhoun (26:41) and sophomore Zamiya McInnis (26:57) both outraced Hoke’s Kayla Randolph to finish in 21st and 22nd place, respectively.  Their points secured second place for Richmond in the meet.

Also competing in the girls race for the Lady Raiders were junior Analee Wyand (27:22, 25th), sophomore Alena Craddock (27:57, 27th), senior Jessie Matheson (30:14, 35th), and junior Hannah Stewart (34:09, 41st).
