ROCKINGHAM — Just seven days away from their season opener, four Raider basketball players and head coach Donald Pettigrew joined ROSports to discuss the upcoming season.

The Raiders are looking to keep up the work from last season that saw them jump from the bottom third to the top third of the Sandhills Athletic Conference standings. Returning several starters, Richmond will look to put its experience to good use as it chases an SAC title and a return to the NCHSAA state playoffs.

Featured in this edition of “Raider Video Chats” are seniors seniors Quamir Sivels (point guard), Jarvis Tillman (power forward), juniors PJ McLaughlin (point guard) and Nygie Stroman (forward) and Pettigrew.

Nygie Stroman, junior forward

Stroman had a breakout season as a sophomore and he’s looking to do more damage this winter. He was the leading scorer on the team and made all-conference a season ago. Over the summer he was featured as a Top 100 Sophomore player and has started gaining interest from Division I programs. (click photo for video)

PJ McLaughlin, junior point guard

McLaughlin enters his second season at the varsity level and will again be responsible for helping run the point and a fast-paced offense alongside Sivels. He also reminds Raider fans to “be there” when Richmond opens the season against Anson High School at home on Nov. 19. (click photo for video)

Jarvis Tillman, senior power forward

Tillman is one of the stronger Raider players in the post and will look to lead the team in blocks again in 2019-2020. He meets with ROSports to talk about his role on defense and how he hopes to utilize his senior leadership this season. (click photo for video)

Quamir Sivels, senior point guard

Sivels is a two-way player who uses his speed to get up and down the floor and provides solid offense and defense for Richmond. He notes how everything the team does is based off its defense, but adds his perimeter shot has also improved ahead of his final year. (click photo for video)

Donald Pettigrew, third-year head coach

Pettigrew has spent the last two seasons setting a new standard in place and is hoping to see this year’s team put it all together to make a run at an SAC crown. He discusses the team’s efforts in the pre-season and explains what fans should look forward to. (click photo for video)
