HAMLET — After a successful series honoring former Richmond Senior High School teacher and coach Jason Norton, the Richmond Observer is proud to announce it will be featuring more tribute videos.

Norton, who passed away from a four-year battle with cancer in early June, spent most of his teaching and coaching career in Richmond County. He had tenures at both Richmond Senior and Hamlet Middle School, and was a two-time state champion kicker with the Raider football team in the late 1980s.

Norton’s sister, Ryan Norton-Smith, reached out not long after the three-part video series honoring her brother and suggested several other men in Jason’s life who were impacted by his friendship, coaching and tutelage.

In the first video this encore video series, current Richmond defensive line coach Milton Swinnie sits down to remember his former colleague and a man he always considered to be like “an older brother.”

Swinnie, who attended Hamlet Middle, shares stories about how “Biggie Bigs” always had his back inside the classroom, at home and on the football field.

ROSports will continue to publish additional videos by other friends and coworkers of Norton as they’re submitted.
