FAYETTEVILLE – The Richmond Senior High School Raiders and Lady Raiders bowling teams were in action Tuesday against last year’s state champion Jack Britt High School, as well as Lumberton High School.

And despite not managing a win against either team, head coach Jeff Ingram was pleased with his teams’ growth. The Raiders lost all their matches, but improved their total pin count from their last set of matches, which Ingram noted as encouraging.

“Our total numbers were 100 pins better than the week before, but we went against the two toughest teams in the league,” Ingram noted. “It doesn’t show in the results, but both our teams did better. I spoke with the coach from Lumberton, and their kids also compete in a league on Saturday mornings. They kind of do bowling there like travel baseball.

“No excuses, but that is what we competed against,” Ingram continued. “We need to get our average up to about a 140 per game to get some wins. We are getting our share of strikes, but we need to work on getting our spares. We also were not following up after getting a mark. We would throw a bad ball after a spare and that hurts your total. It can cost you up to 30 or 40 pins after a couple of times doing that. “

Both teams will next compete in SAC play on Thursday, December 7 in Aberdeen, N.C., at Sandhills Bowling Center. Richmond will compete with Pinecrest and Seventy-First high schools with a starting time of 4:00p.m. The lanes are located 1680 NC Highway 5.
