Mopars at the Rock scheduled twice for 2024

ROCKINGHAM — Following this year’s rescheduled Mopars at the Rock, Dragway owners Dan VanHorn and Al Gennarelli are planning to double down in 2024.

The event, which heads into its 33rd year, is traditionally held Easter weekend but had to be rescheduled for Nov. 18 because of spring showers.

According to VanHorn, Mopars at the Rock had several hundred participants and “was a total success on the new date which is a rarity with a mid-year date change.”

“The need is there,” VanHorn said in a statement. “Clearly the Mopar faithful want to come out and show their rides, race them, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.”

With that, the Dragway owners decided to hold both a spring and fall edition of Mopars at the Rock adding the Modern Street HEMI Shootout to each date “completing an already stout program.”

Those events are slated for April 6-7 and Nov. 15-16.

VanHorn co-founded the Modern Street HEMI Shootout in 2010, which held its first event at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. He previously told the RO that the series paved the way to him eventually becoming a track owner.

The April Mopar event kicks off a month of drag racing action followed by the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals, Rudy’s Truck Jam and Civil Wars.

Rockingham Dragway still has several races on the schedule for this year and recently announced its schedule for 2024, which also includes several returning events: Dig or Die no-prep events in March, July and December (at the back of the track); Big John Memorial Bracket Race in May Super Chevy Show in September; and All Harley Drag Racing Association events in May and August; and ADRL Dragstock in September.

The Dragway is also hosting the Rock Around and Find Out Battle of the Bands in June and Rocktoberfest in October.
