ROCKINGHAM — Next generation drag racers from 15 states and Canada will descend on Rockingham Dragway this Thanksgiving weekend for the second annual Holiday Junior Jam featuring age group showdowns, pro tree shootouts, a host of special awards and a Saturday main event with a $5,000 top prize.

ROCKINGHAM — Larry “Spiderman” McBride crushed the competition Sunday at Rockingham Dragway, stopping the quarter mile timers in a best-in-history 5.607 seconds at a jaw-dropping finish line speed of 263.10 miles per hour to win the Top Fuel title for the fourth time in five years in the track’s annual Man Cup Motorcycle Series event.

ROCKINGHAM — Sandy Wilkins won his fourth straight Southeast Division championship Sunday, applying an exclamation point by driving his 1969 Chevy Camaro past the ’66 Chevy II of Jackie Robison of Greer, S.C., in a final round showdown between the No. 1 and No. 2 qualifiers at Rockingham Dragway.

ROCKINGHAM — Cassie Lewis of Lumberton and Donald Norris of Conway, South Carolina, claimed the biggest shares of the purse in the seventh annual Carolina Powerfest at Rockingham Dragway.  

RALEIGH — Steve Earwood, who in 1992 realized a lifelong dream with his purchase of Rockingham Dragway, was recognized Tuesday, July 23, on the floor of the North Carolina General Assembly for his contributions to the state, Richmond County and the city of Rockingham.

ROCKINGHAM — In a classic final round showdown, Logan Westmoreland of Greenwood, South Carolina, outran Cobi Toliver of Piney River, Virginia, to win Saturday’s $3,500 top prize in the inaugural Junior Dragster Summer Sizzler at Rockingham Dragway.

ROCKINGHAM—Goldsboro’s Brandon Lane claimed the biggest share of the purse in the 21st annual “Big John” Memorial Weekend Bracket Nationals at Rockingham Dragway and capped his Top Eliminator success with a victory in Sunday’s National Dragster Challenge.

ROCKINGHAM — The pit area at Rockingham Dragway, which on most weekends is home to hundreds of high-performance race cars, has been transformed this week to accommodate the biggest non-automotive event in Richmond County history.

 

ROCKINGHAM — Dave Crosswhite won a family feud Saturday to claim the Bob Reed Memorial Hemi Shootout title before rain forced cancelation of the final rounds of racing in the 28th annual Griffin Motors Mopars at the Rock all-Chrysler drag race and car show at Rockingham Dragway.
