ROCKINGHAM — Hosting its first meet of the season Tuesday, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ track and field team ran away from the competition.

Getting on their home track after being delayed weeks due to the construction of the new track, the Lady Raiders outperformed Overhills and Pine Forest high schools in the Mid-South Conference meet.

Official team scores were not kept during the meet, as competitors focused on qualifying for regionals.

Even so, the Lady Raiders racked up 10 event wins. They added five runner-up and five third-place marks, three fourth-place finishes and two fifth-place results.

The Lady Raiders swept first place in three sprinting events – the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.

Senior Jasiah Gilchrist won the open 100 with a time of 13.00 seconds. Freshman Shamia Williams was first in the 200-meter dash (26.84 seconds) and senior Kymaria Wall clocked in at 1:04.97 to take the top spot in the 400-meter race.

Running the 100-meter hurdles, senior Ka’mora Watkins picked up the first of her two individual event wins with a time of 16.90 seconds. She also won the triple jump, launching out to a final distance of 34 feet, 2 inches.

Richmond also brought home first place in the 300-meter hurdles thanks to sophomore Chrislynn Culley’s time of 57.39 seconds.

Both of the Lady Raiders’ relay teams – the 4x100 and 4x200-meter teams – recorded first-place times. The 4x100 team circled the track in 51.75 seconds and the 4x200 grouping passed the baton in 1:48.42.

The Lady Raiders’ other two event victories came in the long jump and shot put. Williams won the long jump (17 feet, 2 inches) and sophomore Zarriahnna Ray won the shot put (35 feet, 9 inches).

Recording two of the team’s second-place times was junior Emely Valencia. She took runner-up in the 800-meter (2:48.69) and 1600-meter (6:19.48) runs. Behind Watkins in the 100-meter hurdles was freshman Kassidy Young, who was second with a time of 21.91 seconds.

Watkins was second in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 10 inches, and freshman Natelie Everett landed at a final distance of 27 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump for second place.

Freshman Myah Williams was responsible for two of Richmond’s third-place results. She did so in the 100-meter dash (13.48 seconds) and the long jump 14 feet, 10 inches.

Freshman Nahryah Covington was third in the 200-yard dash (27.35 seconds) and senior Emma Williams impressed in the discus with a third-place throw of 76 feet, 2.5 inches.

The other third-place finisher was junior Glenisha Thomas in the shot put (31 feet, 0 inches).
