ROCKINGHAM — Nearly a dozen roads were closed due to flooding around Richmond County on Thursday.
Bob Smith, interim director of Richmond County Emergency Services, said 11 roads, mostly in the northern part of the county were closed because of flooding and a few downed trees.
Belinda Hewitt, of Ellerbe, posted photos of Cartledge Creek Road flooded in two places — between N.C. 73 and Grassy Island Road and Pleasant Hill Church Road — as well as flooding on Marvin McCaskill Road.
Smith said many of the roads are prone to flooding “during heavy rain events.”
The gauge at the Emergency Services Complex collected about 4.16 inches of rain in the past 24 hours, Smith added.
“Emergency Services staff will continue to monitor the situation throughout the evening,” Smith said..
