HAMLET — On April 20, 2024, Doc Hill’s Family Care Home opened its doors in Hamlet with a mission to provide more than care — it aimed to create a home rooted in faith, family, and love.
One year later, that mission came to life in the most unexpected and beautiful ways.
This past weekend, residents and staff gathered for a surprise birthday celebration honoring Mrs. Lonnie Hill, the home’s dedicated administrator and founder.
Cupcakes, music, balloons and fresh flowers set the tone for a weekend filled with joy and connection.
Resident Ms. Beth gifted Mrs. Hill a card on behalf of the residents that read, “Weird families are more fun,” capturing the lighthearted spirit of the day and home.
While no formal anniversary event was planned, the weekend unfolded with deeply meaningful moments. Ms. Susan, a resident, was reunited with her sister after 25 years.
She shared that the love and support she received at Doc Hill’s gave her the strength to prepare for the visit.
“This is a place of love,” she said. “It gave me what I needed for a reunion I’ll never forget.”
Adding to the excitement, the Charlotte Elite Riderz — a slingshot group based in Charlotte — made a special trip to the home after spending the day in Fayetteville.
The group rolled up together in perfect formation along Spring Street, bringing music, cheers, and joy to residents and neighbors gathered outside.
Residents smiled, waved, and posed for photos with the riders, turning the moment into a celebration none will soon forget.
“It wasn’t planned, but it was perfect,” said Mrs. Hill. “Every moment reminded me why this place exists — because love always finds a way.”
Since opening, Doc Hill’s has reunited families, supported spiritual healing, and created a nurturing environment where every resident is treated like family.
As it enters its second year, the home is laying the foundation for expanded services, community partnerships, and continued legacy-building.
