Aaron Coleman: The Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week

ROCKINGHAM — Writing his name in the record books this weekend, a member of the Richmond Senior High School indoor track and field team is being featured in The Richmond Observer’s weekly series.

Aaron Coleman, a senior sprinter and hurdler, has been named the Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.

Competing in a large-scale invitational in Virginia, Coleman set two program records and earned a pair of top-three finishes.

A four-year veteran of the program, Coleman clinched his third career selection. He earned it once as a sophomore and again as a junior for outdoor track and field.

“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH AARON COLEMAN

During his fall semester, which concluded last week, Coleman made the A Honor Roll. In his four classes at Richmond, he earned final grades in Child Development (93), Economics and Personal Finance (97), Math 4 (90) and Weight Training Honors (96).

With the new semester starting Tuesday, Coleman hopes to replicate his success in four new courses — Art Intermediate, Culinary Arts and Hospitality, English IV and another section of Weight Training Honors.

Entering his final months of high school, Coleman has a 2.20 weighted grade point average. Following graduation, he wants to run track and field in college and pursue a four-year degree.

One of three sprinters representing Richmond at the Walter Bass Invitational at Liberty University Saturday, Coleman finished third overall in the 55-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles.

His times of 6.48 seconds (55-meter dash) and 7.58 seconds (55-meter hurdles) were new records in Richmond’s history, as well as new personal records for him.

Coleman surpassed former teammate Taye Spencer in the 55-yard dash (6.67 seconds, 2023) and Richie Houtson in the 55-meter hurdles (7.82 seconds, 2003).

Getting back on the track this weekend, Coleman and the rest of the Richmond team will compete at a meet at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem Saturday.
