Aberdeen man charged in Hamlet statutory rape case

ROCKINGHAM — A Moore County man is facing sex crime charges in Richmond County from nearly two years ago.

Moises Palacios, 20, of Aberdeen, was arrested April 6 on charges of taking indecent liberties with a minor and statutory rape 15 years old or younger.

According to online court records, the allegations stem from an incident in August of 2023, investigated by the Hamlet Police Department, and the warrant for his arrest was issued Oct. 18 of that year.

The warrant is not available online since it was issued before the switch to eCourts in October of 2024.

Palacios was booked into the Richmond County Jail on April 8, where he is being held on a $500,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court April 16.

If Palacios is released on bail, his release order restricts him from having contact with the alleged victim.

Records show Palacios is also facing several charges in Moore County from the Pinehurst Police Department: possessing, selling or buying a gun with an altered serial number; carrying a concealed gun; and resisting a public officer.

That case, records show, is also from 2023. His next hearing is scheduled for June 9.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
