ROCKINGHAM - A single vehicle accident occurred at 10:47 p.m. Thursday night on US 1 South near the Osborne Road intersection.
The driver of a Toyota Scion was treated at the scene by EMS personnel from Cordova Fire and Rescue and First Health Richmond. He walked away from the wreck as a very fortunate man, suffering only a cut on his right thumb.
He stated that he lost control of his car on a sharp curve and over-corrected after starting to slide on the wet road. As he was trying to regain control of his vehicle, he ran off the road, ending up down an embankment and in a ditch.
Responding agencies included the Cordova Fire and Rescue, First Health Richmond EMS, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The accident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
