Posted

RICHMOND COUNTY – By now, it’s clear that Winter Storm Grayson has left behind some treacherous driving conditions. As reported in a previous article, Emergency Services director Donna Wright said there were no fatalities as a result of the snow, but there were several reported accidents around the county.

Among several accidents, many of which included vehicles sliding off of slick roads into ditches, below are a few covered by contributor Harold Dawkins.

Car Slides Off Highway 74 and Clips Power Pole

ROCKINGHAM – Amid the quick snowfall Wednesday afternoon, a single-vehicle accident occurred at 4:04 p.m. on Highway 74 at the entrance to Pine Ridge Homes.

No occupants of the vehicle were injured in the accident, but a power pole was clipped and one lane of traffic was blocked as power lines laid in the highway.

Rockingham Police Department and Rockingham Fire Department were dispatched to the accident to help with traffic.

Two Vehicles Hit Ditch to Avoid Crash on Mill Road

EAST ROCKINGHAM – Sometimes accidents occur when vehicles try to avoid a crash. And that was the case for two vehicles during Winter Storm Grayson’s Wednesday blast.

Things got exciting on Mill Road in East Rockingham Wednesday afternoon around 3:37 p.m.

To avoid hitting one another, two vehicles chose to swerve and hit the ditch instead of each other at Dawkins and Mill roads.

A black sedan stopped quickly and slid, while a white sedan locked its brakes and slid in the ditch. Both vehicles had two occupants, and neither vehicle needed medical attention.

East Rockingham Fire Departments stood by and helped with traffic until tow trucks could get the vehicles back on the road.
