Press Release
HAMLET — The Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter, in partnership with East Rockingham Senior Center and Hamlet Senior Center, will host a free community health and safety fair that is applicable to all ages.
"Bridging the Gap: Healthy Living for All" will include workshops, such as "The Wellness Wheel: Turning Toward Balance" and "Mental Health and Healthy Living for your Brain and Body."
This event will take place Tuesday, June 17 from 2-5 p.m. at Cole Auditorium and Community Center at Richmond County Community College in Hamlet (1042 West Hamlet Ave.).
"Strong evidence suggests that individuals can lower their risk of cognitive decline by adopting key lifestyle changes, such as engaging in regular physical activity, staying socially connected, and maintaining good heart health," said Katherine Lambert, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter. "This event aims to unite the Richmond County community to educate and provide tools that promote overall health and wellness."
“As senior center directors, we’ve seen firsthand how deeply mental health impacts overall well-being,” said Amanda Kempen, director of Hamlet Senior Center. “Bridging the gap between mental health and healthy living means recognizing that wellness isn’t just about moving your body — it’s also about healing your mind, building connection, and giving seniors the support they need to thrive emotionally and physically.”
This symposium and health fair is free and open to the general public. To learn more and register visit tinyurl.com/HealthWellSafeRichmondCounty or call 800-272-3900.
