“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH AMER MORRISON
While he’s put up big numbers on the football field this season, Morrison said he understands the importance of replicating that in the classroom.
During the first nine-week period of the fall semester, Morrison made the A/B honor roll. An honors student, Morrison made As in Electrical Trades I Honors, Media Journalism I Honors and Weight Training Honors.
A few percentage points off from the clean sweep, Morrison earned a B in English IV Honors.
As the second nine-week period continues, Morrison currently has high marks in all of his classes. He’s looking to bolster his 3.02 weighted grade point average while balancing the duties of being a three-sport, year-round student-athlete.
When he graduates in the spring, Morrison hopes to attend a four-year university and continue his football or basketball career.
“IN THE END ZONE” WITH AMER MORRISON
In what proved to be an absolute crushing of their MSC rival, the Raiders steamrolled the Patriots 58-27 with a running clock to secure the conference’s inaugural championship title.
Morrison had a big hand in the win, making four receptions for 189 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. He set single-game career-highs in receiving yards and touchdowns in the process.
Giving Richmond the lead for good early in the second quarter, Morrison caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Evan Hodges over the middle and made it to the end zone untouched.
To begin the third quarter, Morrison beat the defense on a go route down the left side line and pulled in a 66-yard catch-and-run score to extend the lead to 42-14.
Before the end of the third quarter, Richmond recovered a successful onside kick and Morrison and Hodges connected for a third time on the next snap. Airing it out one more time, Morrison caught a 50-yard dart along the far sideline, mirroring his previous score.
That touchdown, along with the extra point, made it 56-21, which started the running clock.
This season, Morrison led the MSC in the following categories: receiving yards (801), receiving yards per game (80.1), yards per reception (23.6) and receiving touchdowns (12). His 34 receptions were the most for Richmond.
The No. 6 Raiders (8-2) will host the winner of No. 11 Porter Ridge (6-4) and No. 22 Cuthbertson (3-7) during the second round on Nov. 14.
