ROCKINGHAM — American Legion Post 147 recently completed its annual box fan drive for Richmond County Aging Services.
Post leaders delivered 20 fans to the office on July 22 to help keep area seniors cool during the hot summer months in the Sandhills.
“Launched over a decade ago, this annual event has grown into a highly anticipated event exemplifying Post 147's unwavering commitment to community service and support for the City of Rockingham and Richmond County,” Adjutant Robert Steele said.
According to Aging Services Director Jacquline Welch, the agency has received more than 100 box fans this summer and all of them have been distributed. She added that more are needed.
Temperatures so far this summer have topped out over 100 degrees, with frequent heat advisories issued by the National Weather Service. Another heat wave expected next week.
