ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Astronomy Club hosted a star-gazing session during the fall festival at Frist Assembly The Possibility Church on Nov. 1.

Two club members brought their telescopes: John Sullivan with a 6-inch reflecting telescope; and Mark Gibson with a Seestar S50.

According to Gibson, visitors were able to control the telescopes using smart tablets.

“Just like everything else in society, technology has (come) to the amateur astronomy hobby allowing users to use it to do the routine work of finding objects, viewing objects and creating professional astrophotography images,” Gibson said.

Visitors were able to see the Sun, moon, Comet Lemmon and the Andromeda Galaxy.

Gibson said many visitors reported it was their first time looking through a telescope.
