Axe to Grind goes back in time with 80's Unleashed

HAMLET — A 1981 DeLorean rolled through Richmond County on Saturday, leading a small convoy to promote a concert at a local bar.

The convoy was featured in a video to plug the performance of the cover band 80's Unleashed at Axe to Grind, organized by Aftermath frontman Franklin Branch.

Members of Triangle RAD — a car club for owners with vehicles made in the ‘80s and ‘90s — made the trip down to Hamlet to take part in the video, produced by former AtG owner Zaidoon Al-Zubaidy.

Other vehicles included a 1986 Nissan 300ZX, a 1990 Dodge Power Ram 50 pickup, and a ‘91 Suzuki Cappuccino.

The circuit took the vehicles to several stops in Rockingham and Hamlet as Branch current AtG owner Ray Mills searched for the band, using stereotypical slang from the ‘80s era.

The first stop was Griffin Toyota, followed by Planet Fitness. The convoy then made its way to The Rock and Roll — which celebrates its grand opening this week — with a cameo by owner Mary Kate Lambeth.

The next stop was Richmond Community Theatre at Harrington Square, then Rockingham VFW Post 4203 (with Rockin’ Robin Roberts), 74 Car Wash and Griffin Nissan before returning to the bar, where the three-piece band later performed a variety of hits of the ‘80s from the likes of Journey, Van Halen, Prince and Cyndi Lauper.
