HAMLET — A yard fire late Thursday morning resulted in the destruction of several storage buildings and damage to a neighboring home.
According to the Hamlet Fire Department, the fire started in the backyard of 131 Kristy Lane, off of County Home Road.
Residents reportedly told HFD that they had been burning debris in a pit the previous night and thought they had extinguished the fire.
Firemen say the debris rekindled and spread to several neighboring properties between Kristy Lane and Rabbit Hare Road, burning multiple storage buildings and a pumphouse, as well as melting the vinyl siding and igniting the porch of one of the homes.
The department was dispatched at 11:46 a.m.
Crews from the East Rockingham and Northside fire departments, as well as the N.C. Forest Service and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported and the NCFS issued a warning ticket.
