Big win for Raiders at 74 Expressway Relays

Richmond wins 10 events at Anson invitational

WADESBORO — At the 74 Expressway Relays over the weekend, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ track and field team dominated its competition.

One of four schools competing in the invitational meet hosted by Anson High School, the Raiders racked up 116.25 points across 26 events to earn the team victory.

In addition to the host Bearcats, Ablemarle and Chesterfield high schools also participated in the meet. The event was Richmond’s second competition of the season.

Placing second was Anson (67.5 points), followed by Albemarle (28.5 points) and Chesterfield (13.75 points).

The Raiders led the way by winning a total of 10 events. They also had seven second-place results, five third-place finishes and four fourth-place times or distances.

Of the six relay events run Saturday, the Raiders won four of them – the 4x200-meter relay (1:29.27), the 4x400-meter relay (4:18.66), the 4x800-meter relay (10:11.27) and the 800-meter spring medley relay (1:34.60).

The other two relays yielded a pair of second-place times – the 4x100-meter relay (43.85 seconds) and the 4x101 relay (54.97 seconds).

Senior Domonic Tillman had another successful outing to begin the new campaign. He won three individual events, one track and two field events, and also placed second in another field event.

In his lone running event, Tillman won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.47 seconds. He followed that with victories in the high jump (6 feet, 0 inches) and the long jump (21 feet, 10 inches). Taking second in the triple jump, Tillman landed at 43 feet, 1 inch.

The Raiders’ other three first-place results came in the 100-meter dash, the 800-meter run and the shot put.

Senior Keonta Pegues led the field in the open 100 (10.82 seconds), freshman Justus Kersey won the 800-meter (2:30.37) and junior Elijah Ingram had the longest throw in the shot put (44 feet, 7 inches).

Richmond had four other competitors take the runner-up spot in his respective event. Sophomores Ziyair Ingram (17.33 seconds) and Elliot Samuel (6:08.19) were second in the 110-meter hurdles and the 1600-meter run, respectively.

Junior Josiah Brewington was second in the high jump behind Tillman (5 feet, 8 inches) and fellow junior Jeremiah Covington placed second in the discus (124 feet, 6 inches).

A host of five Raiders placed third overall – sophomore Jonathan Leak in the 110-hurdles (17.59 seconds), senior Angel Cristobal in the 800-meter run (2:38.06), sophomore Nicholas Crawford in the 1600-meter (6:14.65), senior Jordan Hamilton in the discus (114 feet, 0 inches) and senior Daylyn Robinson in the shot put (38 feet, 6 inches),

Rounding out the top spots were four Raiders with a fourth-place mark – senior Christian Surgent (100-meter, 11.33 seconds); freshman Jazari Dawkins (high jump, 5 feet, 2 inches); junior Chance Crowder (long jump, 20 feet, 0.5 inch) and sophomore Messiah Marshall (shot out, 38 feet, 4 inches).

The Raiders will compete in their first Mid-South Conference meet of the season Wednesday. They’ll travel to Pinecrest High School and face the host Patriots, as well as Pine Forest High School. Events will start at 4:30 p.m.
