ROCKINGHAM — Visitors to the Black’s Tire and Auto Service Rockingham location will now be greeted by a new team member when they enter the store: a 750-horsepower NASCAR race truck that last saw the track in 2017.
Current NASCAR on Fox commentator Regan Smith piloted the Ricky Benton Racing (the Benton family own Black’s Tire) Ford F-150 to a hard-fought 14th-place finish in the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Aug. 16, 2017. The truck still bears the battle scars from the beating and banging that night.
“We have a few ‘show’ trucks at the shop, but we wanted to put this particular truck in our Rockingham location because Rockingham is all about real racing and this truck is a real racer,” said Black’s Tire VP Rick Benton II. “It doesn’t look much different than it did when it was unloaded from the hauler.
“With the Black’s Tire 200 and the N.C. Education Lottery 250 presented by Black’s Tire coming up at the track, we thought it would a good addition to celebrate Richmond County’s racing heritage.”
A crew from Rockingham-based North State Glassworks removed the doors at the Richmond Plaza location to allow the Black’s Tire crew to get the truck in the showroom — meaning the No. 92 is a permanent fixture in the store’s window.
