Bowling conference championships rescheduled for Friday, Tuesday

No. 1 Lady Raiders and No. 5 Raiders seek titles

ROCKINGHAM — Local high school bowlers have had to wait a couple extra days to return to the lanes.

Because of winter weather this week, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ and girls’ bowling teams haven’t been able to compete in their scheduled conference championship matches.

The Lady Raiders (7-0), who are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, were slated to bowl Wednesday and then again on Thursday.

But a remote learning day Wednesday washed the meet, and Thursday’s makeup was postponed again when Johnston County Public Schools canceled classes following overnight freezing rain.

West Johnston High School is a member of the conference, therefore causing the meet to be rescheduled because of students not being in school.

The Raiders (4-3) are the No. 5 seed and were originally scheduled to bowl Thursday.

Head coaches Chris and Ashleigh Larsen confirmed that the boys’ conference tournament is planned for Friday, while the girls’ championship meet has been moved to next Tuesday.

Both championship events will be held at the Sandhills Bowling Center and feature a team and an individual bracket. Bowling will start at 2 p.m. both days.
