Carley Lambeth: The Official Richmond County Female Athlete of the Week Video

ROCKINGHAM — Carley Lambeth, a senior on the Richmond Senior High School volleyball team, has been named the Week 7 Official Richmond County Female Athlete of the Week presented by Moss Brothers Tire and Service.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete from Richmond Senior High School will be selected by his or her coach as ROSports’ Official Richmond County Athlete of the Week based on his or her performance in helping their respective team.

Lambeth has been a staple with the Lady Raider volleyball program since her freshman year, and has been the starting varsity setter for the past two seasons. Last Tuesday marked a monumental night for Lambeth, as she recorded her 1,000th career assist. This is her first career recognition.

RSHS Academics: As her last first semester reaches its halfway point, Lambeth is hard at work balancing volleyball with high school and college classes at Richmond Community College. Enrolled in the Advanced Placement and RichmondCC clusters, Lambeth is taking six classes this fall.

At the college, Lambeth is taking Statistics and Microeconomics in the classroom, and Art Appreciation and English 112 online. When she’s on RSHS’ campus, Lambeth takes Honors English IV with Ms. Tiffany Covington and AP Chemistry with Mr. Matthew Learn.

“I’m enjoying math because it’s my best subject,” she shared of her college course. “All of my RCC classes will help me walk with an associate’s degree in May with 60 college credits. That means I will only have to do two years of college, which is really beneficial.

“Senior year is going pretty well and it’s going by so fast,” she added. “It’s a lot of work but I’m enjoying it.”

Lambeth is currently ranked fourth in the class of 2020 with a 4.7312 GPA. An “A” Honor Roll student, Lambeth is actively involved in Richmond’s National Beta Club and National Honor Society. She is also a four-year member of the Lady Raider soccer team.

Future Plans: Like many of her senior classmates, Lambeth has spent the first two months of school applying to college. Currently, she’s applied to UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Chapel Hill, East Carolina University and Wingate University. She plans to major in exercise science and go to physical therapy school.

“I want to be a physical therapist because during my sophomore year of soccer I had a knee injury,” she explained. “I went to PT for five or six months and that’s when I realized I wanted to pursue that as a career so I can help athletes going through something similar to me.”

Lambeth has also been nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC and has moved to the state semifinalist round. She also found out this week she was put up for the Park Scholarship at North Carolina State University and will have her interview later this week.

Athlete of the Week Stats: Although the Lady Raiders would drop two Sandhills Athletic Conference matches last week, Lambeth wrote her name in the Lady Raider history book when she recorded her 1,000th career assist. She entered Tuesday’s match at Pinecrest High School with 975 career assists and tallied 28 in four sets against the Lady Patriots to eclipse the mark.

She added 36 and 32 more, respectively, in the final two matches in the week. Her serving hand was hot, too, as she notched nine aces in three matches. Her role as the setter is often overlooked by the heavy hitters, but Lambeth’s career numbers have helped set up kills for her teammates.

Coach’s Corner: Second-year head coach Ashleigh Larsen has been with Lambeth as she’s grown with the program through the junior varsity and varsity levels, and discusses her setter’s milestone.

“It’s been an honor to watch Carley grow through her four years at Richmond,” Larsen said. We have been together all four years and transitioned from JV to varsity together.

“She works so hard at dishing out balls in order for our offense to get rolling,” she added. “This is clearly evident from her milestone. It’s a big honor for her and I’m proud to see her reach it. Carley also plays a big role on our defense and takes a lot more digs than most setters are accustomed to.”
