RICHMOND COUNTY - April’s First Friday Luncheon with the Chamber of Commerce President Emily Tucker and Operations Assistant Taylor Player was held April 6th at Pizza Inn in Rockingham. In this casual atmosphere, Chamber members shared information about their respective companies.
Allison Melvin, who has been the Career Center manager for NCWorks since October 2017, discussed what this office offers Richmond County residents. Formerly the unemployment office, NCWorks is the place to go when individuals are searching for a job or needing a job referral. RichmondCC’s Cole Auditorium Director Joey Bennett stated that he has recently had two dance competitions hosted at the Cole Auditorium, one of which was attended by Sheri of “ Bob and Sherri in the Morning,” a long-time morning radio program. He was excited to say that Sheri stated on the air the following week that she had been in Hamlet at the Cole Auditorium over the weekend.
Upcoming Cole events are: the Job Fair on Tuesday, April 17th; the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo on Thursday, April 19th; the Office Professionals Luncheon on Tuesday, April 24th; several dance recitals; and RichmondCC Spring graduation. Past Chamber Board of Director Chair Chuck Cobb related that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and he is involved with Richmond County’s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). SART is composed of representatives from various entities including the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office; law enforcement agencies; the Department of Social Services; New Horizons; and First Health. The chairman of SART, Linda Tillman, and the rest of this board have planned an awareness march on Saturday, April 28th, starting at Cole Plaza and going up to the old courthouse. The first 100 walkers will receive teal t-shirts, according to Cobb.
