ROCKINGHAM — A man wanted on fraud charges for nearly a year is now facing several drug charges.
Warrants allege that 37-year-old Ernest Jarrod Brewington was keeping crack cocaine at his home on Hummingbird Drive in the Little Philadelphia community.
Brewington was reportedly caught with 31.08 grams of cocaine, as well as scales and plastic baggies, on Thursday, May 8 — the day after his birthday.
Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office have charged Brewington with: trafficking in cocaine; possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Records show the Rockingham Police Department had obtained warrants for Brewington’s arrest in July of 2024 — for incidents in October and November of 2023 — charging him with: two counts of uttering a forged instrument; two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses; two counts of accessing computers; and one count of felony conspiracy.
(NOTE: Because the warrants were issued prior to the transfer to eCourts, they are not available online.)
Brewington was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 11:17 a.m. and is being held on a combined $190,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court May 27.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Brewington was first convicted in 2007 of assault and battery. His probation was revoked the following year and he was incarcerated for a month.
In 2009, Brewington was convicted of maintaining any place for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was given probation.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
