FAYETTEVILLE — Facing a tough opponent Wednesday to begin Mid-South Conference competition, the Richmond Senior High School wrestling team suffered a loss.

The Raiders traveled to Jack Britt High School and lost 52-22 to the Buccaneers.

Only four Raiders were victorious against their respective opponents — senior Jordan Hamilton, junior Hayden Smith, sophomore Dylan Nunez and freshman Axel Nunez.

The Raiders surrendered 18 points via forfeits in the 106, 113 and 132-pound matches. Earning Richmond’s only forfeit win was Axel Nunez in the 126-pound weight class.

Dylan Nunez and Hamilton each won by technical fall and added five points apiece to the team’s score. Smith recorded the Raiders’ only pinfall win, which scored another six points.

Facing Brayden Howell, Smith made quick work and pinned him just 55 seconds into the start of the first period.

Racking up the points, Dylan Nunez and Hamilton defeated Jaxson Fowler and Gaberiel Christy, respectively.

Nunez won 19-3 less than halfway through the second period and Hamilton notched his final points near the end of the third for a 17-2 win.

Jack Britt added points thanks to three pins, one tech fall, two major decisions and one decision.

In the girls’ meet, sophomore Gabbi Geiger and junior Brooklyn Windley each lost by pinfall.

The Raiders (10-16, 0-1 MSC) return to the mat next Wednesday for a conference tri-meet at home against Overhills High School and Hoke County High School.
