LAURINBURG — The conclusion of the Richmond Senior High School softball team’s regular-season conference schedule ended in defeat Thursday.
On the road at Scotland High School, the Lady Raiders suffered a 15-0 loss in four innings.
The defeat resulted in Richmond being swept by the Lady Fighting Scots, who won the Sandhills Athletic Conference title with an undefeated record.
Facing Avery Stutts in the circle, the Lady Raiders registered two hits. Junior Hayden Robinson led off the top of the second with a line drive to left field and senior Jakayla Steele started the fourth with an opposite-field knock to right.
Aside from those two hits, and hit-by-pitches to sophomore Emma Rusich and junior Addison Connor, Richmond went down in order with no other base runners.
Senior Madelynn Pearson pitched 3.2 innings for the Lady Raiders. Ten of her 15 runs allowed were earned, as she walked three and struck out two batters. Scotland collected a dozen hits.
Scotland led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third, which resulted in an eight-run inning. The Lady Scots scored their final five runs in the fourth to end the game early.
The Lady Raiders (8-13, 5-7 SAC), who finished fourth in the regular-season conference standings, have a quick turnaround and travel to Northside-Pinetown High School for its spring break tournament.
Richmond will open against Pamlico County High School (12-6) Saturday at 1 p.m.
